Colorado is a place where big things happen. You already know about our iconic mountains, but did you know we also hold some pretty amazing world records? One of the coolest things happened right here in Greeley. In 2015, our community broke the Guinness World Record for the Longest Chalk Pavement Art. Over 10 years later, no one has broken our record.
The event was called the Great Greeley Chalk-A-Lot. It happened at the University of Northern Colorado and on nearby streets. More than 3,500 people of all ages joined in, using 76,000 sticks of chalk to cover the pavement with art. Over 125 volunteers worked for months to plan everything and follow the Guinness World Record rules. When the drawings were finished, surveyors measured the art. It was 18,761 feet and 11 inches long and 6.5 feet wide – more than 3.5 miles across Greeley!

The day was full of color and fun. Families, students and local artists drew flowers, cartoons, school mascots and happy messages – whatever captured their imagination. What started as a challenge turned into a big celebration of Greeley’s art and teamwork. Chalk it up to a state where amazing things can happen when people work together with creativity and heart.
Curious about the other records Colorado has claimed? From massive fireworks displays to extra-long hula-hoop sessions, our state boasts some pretty impressive feats.
